DIY Upcycled Picnic Basket

I had a gourmet gift basket to make and I needed a pretty basket to put all of the goodies in, so I thrifted a basket that looked like this (only all in browns and not as pretty):

Then I primed it with gray primer and painted it flat black (10 minute dry time):


Then I used an old black plaid wool skirt to make a liner: 


Then I hot glued a thin batting underlayment to give a cushion effect and then finished the top with a steampunk motif burlap fabric remnant I had leftover from an upholstering project!


Added the yummy goodies: 



And some paper straw filling and a burlap bow and  POOF! A new gourmet basket!
